Edwin Louis Berger, MD, age 95, passed away in the care of his family on December 13, 2019.
Ed was born in Detroit, Michigan on May 10, 1924 to parents, Catherine and Louis Berger. He grew up in Dearborn with his brother, Charles James and sister, Carolynne Kay. After graduating from St. Alphonse High School, Ed attended Fordson Junior College and transferred to Wayne University Medical School.
He entered the Army while attending medical school. In his second year of medical school he met Donna Grace Pidgeon, who was a nurse. The couple married on June 21, 1947 at St. Patrick’s Parish in Wyandotte, Michigan. Their first real home was in Wyandotte while Ed started his residency. The family later made their home in Wayne, W. Dearborn, E. Dearborn and Franklin. Dr. Berger practiced medicine in East Dearborn, Southfield, and Farmington Hills and was on staff at Mt. Carmel Mercy Hospital.
Edwin is survived by his children, Gregory (Katherine), Jeffrey (Ann), Mary (Sebastian), Barbara, Eric (Ruth), Mark and Mercedes, thirteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 66 years, Donna in 2013 and grandson, Carl Coppola.
Funeral Liturgy from St. John Catholic Church, N. Hacker Rd. (old church, south of M-59) Howell, Thursday, December 19, 2019 at 11 AM with gathering beginning at 10 AM. The Rev. Fr. Francis M. George to officiate. Burial St. John Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 600 E. Main St., Brighton, Wednesday, December 18, 3-8PM with a Rosary at 7 PM.
Memorials may be made in his name to Dominican Sisters of Mary Mother of the Eucharist.
