Joseph Francis Escott, a long time resident of Brighton, and a former resident of Howell, died at his home in the care of his family after a valiant two-and-a-half year battle with pancreatic cancer on April 25, 2013. He was 58 years old.
Born on November 29, 1954 in Toledo, Ohio, the son of Richard and Patricia (Roskuski) Escott, Joe grew up in Toledo where he was a graduate of Start High School. After high school he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served for four years in Germany.
Joe met Joyce Teichman at a 1950 Classic Legends car show at Memories Restaurant in Brighton. They fell in love and married on November 25, 1994, making their home in Howell and later Brighton.
Joe worked as a prototype mechanic with the General Motors Proving Ground in Milford for over thirty years. He loved his work, was ever dedicated to General Motors and his work, and was able to enjoy his work until this month.
Outside of his work, Joe could never sit still. He loved to putz around the house and was always concerned about others and ready to help. He adored his grandchildren and loved opportunities to be with family. He loved to fly and travel and enjoyed many trips for work and pleasure, but especially regular trips to his favorite place-Hawaii. His great sense of humor, affinity for Hawaii and his Tom Selleck-like appearance, complete with Hawaiian shirts and a Tigers cap, will always be fondly remembered.
In additon to his beloved wife Joyce, he is survived by daughters, Kathy Nash and Melissa (Brad) Pohl; sons, Jason (Beth) Nash and Adam (Sarah) Escott; grandchildren, Amber Nicole Gawrychowski, Ada Katie Nash, Nicholas Radley Pollet, Colin Christopher Pohl, Xavier and Elana Joiner; parents, Richard and Patricia Escott; sisters, Anne (Gary) Rex, Cathy (Ron) Eichenlaub, Barb (Jim) Burt, Teresa Escott, Patricia (Doug) Meyer and many nieces, nephews, colleagues and dear friends.
A Funeral Service will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 600 E. Main St., Brighton on Saturday, April 27, at 11AM. Friends and family may visit from 9AM until the time of service.
