Obituary for Gary Edward George Maki

Gary Edward George Maki, a resident of Brighton Township, Michigan and formerly Pelkie, Michigan, died at his home in the care of his family, Wednesday, February 22, 2012. He was 61 years old.

Born February 28, 1950 in Pelkie, of Michigan�s upper peninsula, Gary was one of two children to parents Edward and Bernice (nee. Samuelson) Maki. Gary and his sister Judy grew up in Pelkie where his love of the outdoors began. Throughout his life, Gary was an avid outdoors man and hunter. He and his family often camped at his sister�s home up north. Gary enjoyed the challenges of target practice at shooting ranges. Gary often found himself attending classic car shows and becoming involved in the restoration and maintenance of the cars. Gary loved everything about the Old West and especially the classic Western films. He had a deep appreciation for the Ol� Time Rock�n�Roll of the 50s and 60s.

In November of 2010, Gary retired from Accurate Auto Carriers following a long career as an expert diesel and heavy equipment mechanic.

In addition to Mary Jo his loving wife of 13 years; he is survived by his caring children, Edward (Angela), Michelle (Bill) Lucas, Scott (Victoria); grandchildren, Jacob, Carter, Alex, Aly, Seth, and Brook; a sister, Judy (Dennis) Karvakko, and many extended family members and dear friends.

Funeral Service will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 600 E. Main, Brighton, on Sunday, February 26, at 2 PM. Pastor Herb Wheelock to officiate. Visitation will be on Saturday from 2 - 9PM & Sunday 12PM until time of service. Cremation will follow.
