Obituary for Evelyn Louise Ruff

Evelyn Louise (Astrup) Ruff, a resident of Brighton since 1971, died on December 11, 2011 at the age of 89. She was preceded in death by her husband Charles �Chuck� Ruff, Jr. in 2009, and is survived by sons, Dr. Gregory (Dabney Grinnan) Ruff of Chapel Hill, NC and Bradford (Donna) Ruff of Howell, her daughter, Cynthia (Shawn) Slavin of Canton and twelve grandchilden. Also surviving are her sister-in-law, Floyce Anne Astrup of Ypsilanti and many dear friends.
Evelyn was a Real Estate Broker and Co-manager of Quail Creek Apartments in Howell, before her retirement. During WWII she worked for the U.S. Army Air Corps after marrying Chuck, who was in the aviation wing of the Corps. They were stationed at Ft. Leonardwood, MS and in South Dakota during the war.
Prior to moving to Brighton, the family lived in Beverly Hills, Michigan, and Evelyn had served as the secretary to the President of Smith Morris Rockets and Missiles, a DOD contractor in Ferndale, Michigan.
Always active in sports such as golf, fishing, and bowling and was a high school standout in tennis. Evelyn was a leader in the Livingston County Real Estate market during the 1970�s and owned her own real estate company in Brighton, McGlynn Real Estate.
For five years during the 1980�s, Chuck and Evelyn lived in Wildwood, Florida, returning to Michigan in 1989 after the birth of their granddaughter, Darcey Ruff.
For the past five years, Evelyn has resided at Independence Village in Brighton, Michigan, where she had many close friends and was an active Pinochle, Bridge and Poker player as well as being a regular at the Bingo games.
Perhaps best known in the family as the unequalled dancing partner of her late husband Chuck, and as an irreplaceable guiding light for her children and grandchildren.
