Another love of her life was serving her church, Our Savior Lutheran Church, as the Alter Guild President and Sunday School teacher for many years. After retiring to Florida and Kentucky, she returned to Hartland, Michigan, to live out her last days with her devoted husband, family, and caregiver, Jennie Shankster.
She is survived by her husband, Robert D. Meek; children, Jeff (Barb) Meek, Karen (Rick) Essenburg, Randy (Tammy) Meek, Diane Russell, Judy (Wade) Haddad; grandchildren, Sonnet, Jennifer, Heidi, Jeffrey, Jonathan, Katie, David, Patricia, Ryan, Daniel, Christopher, Nathan, Autumn, Joseph, and Adeline; great-grandchildren, Teddy, Jonathan Liam, Avery, and Ansley; sister, Kathy (Tom) Crowel; brother-in-law, Dave Pixley; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Frieda Schmit, and sister, Virginia Pixley.
