Obituary for Stewart Duff McAlpine

Stewart Duff McAlpine, 68, of Brighton, Michigan, passed away on Thursday, July 22, 2021.

Known by his middle name to family and friends, Duff was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He loved corny jokes (What does a general put in his sleeve? His army!), and did not care if you laughed or groaned at them.

Duff loved sports and was a lifelong fan of the Lions, Tigers, and Red Wings. He graduated from Seaholm High School in Birmingham, Michigan where his nickname on the soccer team was "golden toe." His soccer career continued as team captain at Central Michigan University where he studied journalism and met his wife, Mary Lou Henrich. The two of them were married on September 27, 1980.

Combining his journalism degree with his love for photography, Duff worked as part of the editorial team at Corvette Magazine before going back to school at Michigan State University, where he received a Master of Business Administration degree. The rest of his career was spent in and around the automotive industry, where he worked in various capacities for Oldsmobile, RL Polk, Experian, and as the owner of McAlpine Marketing.

Duff is remembered as caring, warm, and curious. Much to the chagrin of his wife and children, he never hesitated to strike up a conversation with servers at restaurants or strangers on the street. He placed a high priority on attending family events to support his children, grandchildren, and extended family members.

Beloved husband of Mary Lou for 41 years. Loving father of Robert McAlpine (Sarah), Evan McAlpine (Rebecca), and William McAlpine (Katrina). Proud grandfather of Meredith, Tristan, Elliott, Ansley, Winifred, Faye, Isla, and Harriet McAlpine. Dear brother of John “Jay” McAlpine (Kathy), Roy McAlpine (Emily Estes), and Marianne Salter (Mark).

A memorial service will be announced at a later date
