Christopher Emmons Smith died April 30, 2021 at home in Howell, Michigan. He was born in Ann Arbor February 19, 1951 to Emmons Edwin and Helen Baldwin Smith, both deceased. Chris attended the Ann Arbor schools through his junior year at Huron High school, graduating from Bloomfield Hills Andover High School in 1969 where he enjoyed athletics on basketball and baseball teams at both schools. He is an alumnus of Depauw University, Class of 1973 and was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity.
Chris enjoyed great success in growing the family business, Travel Plus in West Bloomfield from which he retired in 1995.
Chris is survived by his wife WenMei Zhao of Beijing, China, siblings Mary Smith Steinke (Jerry) of Duxbury, MA, Thomas Baldwin Smith of Redford Township, Sarah Smith Eigenmann (Pius) of Plymouth, MN and sister-in-law Miryam Lammerts Smith of West Bloomfield. He was an adoring Uncle (“Bubaloo”) to Sarah Steinke Gilbert (Charles) and their children Charlie and Macy of Duxbury, MA, Jay Steinke (Tiffany) and their children Andrew and Emilia of Framingham, MA, Stephen Eigenmann of Minneapolis, MN, Michael Eigenmann of Minnetonka, MN, Thierny Kay Smith of London, England and Bradley Emmons Smith of Oak Park.
Chris was a sensitive gentleman with a kind and generous spirit, always standing at the ready to help his family. When his mother was diagnosed with incurable cancer in 1977, Chris, who was enjoying his active years at age 26, moved home to share in her care for her last year, returning to his office each night at Travel Plus to do the accounting.
He is sorely missed. May he rest in peace and rise in glory.
