Robert Clayton Mellin, a resident of Howell, Michigan, former resident of Dayton, Ohio and Brighton, Michigan, and native of Battle Creek, Michigan died on May 8, 2017 after enduring Parkinson’s Disease for many years. He was 87 years old.
He is survived by his brother, Grover (Joyce) Mellin; his sister, Patricia Hile; nephews and nieces, Keith (Teresa) Mellin, Carol Mellin, Dean Hile, Scott Hile, Mark Bornor, Sandy (Daniel Browning) Bornor, Sally (Jerry) Johnson, and many great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Doris Bornor, nephew, Rock Hile, and niece, Elizabeth Dearman.
Bob served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a graduate of Purdue University and Wayne State University in Detroit where he earned his Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering. He made his career as an engineer with General Motors and was awarded many patents, including his design of the first electric cooling fan for radiators. After retiring, Bob worked mostly on programs to present to seniors on composers of popular melodic songs. Bob also enjoyed photography and was a charter member of the Michigan Chapter of the Classic Car Club of America.
Honors and Interment will take place at Great Lakes National Cemetery, 4200 Belford Road, Holly on Monday, May 15, 2017 at 11:30 AM.
