Wilma Marie Williams, of Brighton, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on February 22, 2021. She was 95 years old.
She was born in Mahonning County but grew up in River Rouge, Michigan. She excelled in school and because of the number of credits she earned, her principle allowed her to graduate without attending her senior year at high school. This was 1941-42 during WWII. There were no year books that year because paper was an essential material for the war effort.
As it was a common site to see war planes from Willowrun fly over, it prompted Wilma to learn to fly planes and she received her airplane license before she received her driver’s license. Wilma then became a member of the Nomads Travel Club. They had their own airplane, hanger and pilot, located at the Willowrun Airport. She then had access to and visited many places around the world.
After she acquired her college diploma from Eastern Michigan University, she next received her masters degree in social work from University of Michigan and worked at the Walter Reuther Building in Eloise and at the Northville State Hospital in Northville.
Wilma excelled and worked at several job positions throughout her life, but one of the first was with the Kelly Girls, often requested to work at the Henry Ford Headquarters. She could type 120 words a minute. She was also a member of the RK Club, a philanthropist group, and a member of the Plymouth Church of Christ.
Throughout Wilma’s journey she met her beloved husband, Earl K. Williams and they married in 1947.
Daughter of the late Sydney and Garnet Yoder, Wilma is survived by her children, Dean (Sharon) Williams, Larry (Deana) Williams, and Carol Oblak; grandchildren, Leslie (Chris) Schultz, Lauren (Joe) Lafferty, and Robert Watson; great grandchildren, Evalynn, and Eloise; siblings, Dale Yoder and Ruth (Tom) Charles; nieces and nephews, Terry, Laurie, John, and Julie; also many extended family and dear friends.
Wilma is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Earl K. Williams who passed away in 2013.
Due to the Covid 19 restrictions, the family will be having a private service with interment taking place at Great Lakes National Cemetery.
