William Kenichi Okamoto is with his glorious Savior, Jesus Christ. The Lord is holding Bill in perfect peace. What greater thing would Bill want than this. Bill died on December 9, 2018 in his home in Brighton, Michigan. He was born in Gonzales, California, on January 15, 1938 to Fred Tsuruichi Okamoto and Amy Hanako Okamoto. He had 5 siblings, Elsie Shiramizu, Howard Okamoto, Jane Rouzer, Emma Stewart and Walter Okamoto. His family spent 3 years in a Japanese Internment Camp in Poston, Arizona. The family then moved to Utah. He met his wife, Judy Tsukamoto, in Utah. He went to her family’s farm to get tomatoes and he kept on going to that farm to get tomatoes. He was married to his wife, Judy, on Valentine’s Day in 1964. They had two children, Jeffrey K. Okamoto and Douglas H. Okamoto. He was preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey, who was 10 at the time of his death. Douglas is married to Geneva Okamoto and Bill has two granddaughters, Keira and Cora. Bill so loved his Lord and was baptized in faith on June 6, 1971 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Westland. He worked for Ford Motor Company for thirty years in Fuels and Lubricants and was a Materials Engineer. He retired on a medical disability in November, 1996 after heart surgery. He then volunteered in the St. Joseph Mercy Health System for twenty-one years, in the cardiac floor at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor, then at Ambulatory Surgery at Woodland Health in Brighton and then at the Cancer Care at Woodland. He was a member of Shepherd of the Lakes Lutheran Church in Brighton for forty years. His greatest legacy is that he loved the Lord and that he loved people. He would go out of his way to be with people and greet them and hug them.
