William Borrusch (Bill), 89, formerly of Canton, Michigan, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2021 with family at his side in his room at Market Street Memory Care in Palm Coast, Florida.
Born in Ann Arbor, Michigan on November 10, 1931, Bill is preceded in death by his wife Shirley (Wilkie) and his parents, Henry and Hazel Borrusch.
Bill is survived by his three daughters: Cindy Norton, Patti Hudson and Lori (Darrell) Newsone; 8 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
In 1950 Bill graduated from Cooley High School in Detroit, Michigan and enlisted in the Naval Air Reserve where he proudly called himself a weekend warrior for 47 when he retired as a Senior Chief. Thank you for your service Chief!
In addition to his military service Bill had a lifelong passion for cars that was ever present in his life, both personally and professionally. After completing the Chrysler Institute of Engineering in 1953 Bill worked at Chrysler in chassis design until 1956, was an independent engineer working for all Big 3 companies until 1966, and then worked 25 years at Ford Motor Company as a design engineer until his retirement in 1991.
Bill was also actively involved in the Jaguar Club in Michigan and in Florida. He restored numerous cars in his lifetime including a 1953 Lancia specialty model that was one of only 6 ever produced. He had the ability to see past rusted, mangled pieces of metal that others would call lost causes or scrap and envision the majestic classic car that had once been there, and eventually be there again with his work and determination.
Because Bill was never one to sit down or relax he was also a very active member in the Elks Lodge in Dearborn, MI until 1992 and in Hudson, FL until 2016. He was involved in the administration of the lodges and helped in countless community service efforts in both Michigan and in Florida. During his adult life he was very civically active in Wayne County.
While his family will miss him we are all extremely proud of the life he lived and the examples he set for us all. Bill touched thousands of lives in his 89 years and proved that with hard work, determination, and a compassionate heart one person can make a difference, because he did that for so many of us.
