Obituary for Wesley S. Bachelor

Wesley S. Bachelor, retired General Motors executive, died April 12, 2012 in Brighton, Michigan. He was 89 years old.

Wes started with GM as a Process Engineer in 1953, having several managerial assignments including Superintendent of Skilled Trades before being promoted to unclassified status as Torus Division Manager at the then Hydramatic Division in Ypsilanti, Michigan.

He was born on June 25, 1922, the fifth child of nine children of Marley and Mettie Bachelor, in Walled Lake, MI. A 1939 graduate from Walled Lake High School, he went on to graduate from Ford Apprentice School as a Diemaker in April 1943. He married Janet L. Mayotte in May of that year, before entering the Army.

A World War II Veteran, he served in the 16th Armored Division of Patton�s 3rd Army through Southern Germany and into Czechoslovakia at wars end. After discharge he worked as a die maker until changing to die design in 1950 with Murray Engineering Company, later managing the Die Design section of Spartan Engineering before going to GM.

In 1950 he started night school at Lawrence Technical University and graduated in 1959 with a Bachelor degree in Engineering. He and his wife, Janet, having six children at that time, adding two more for a total of eight. The family moved to Fonda Lake in Brighton from Livonia in 1966. Janet died in an accident on January 2, 1981. Wesley married Barbara J. Lowry on January 8, 1983. They were happily married, traveling extensively and splitting their time between Florida and Michigan.

Mr. Bachelor is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Bachelor; eight children, Louise (Eric) Zachmann, George (Maxine), Paul (Teresa), Bryant (Sara), Joann (Dewey) Bonnewell, Michele (Bruce) Evans, Craig (Jill), Michael (Paula); 23 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren; three step children, Catherine Davis, Michael Lowry, Steven Lowry.

Mass of the Resurrection will be held at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 711 Rickett Road, Brighton on Monday, April 16 at 10:30 AM. Fr. Mark J. Rutherford to officiate. Friends may visit Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 600 E. Main St., Brighton on Sunday from 4-8 PM with a scripture service at 7 PM. Memorials are encouraged LACASA or St. Joseph Mercy Livingston Hospice.
