Obituary for Viorel Solcan

Viorel Solcan, a long time resident of Mount Clemens, died on July 22, 2020 at the age of 83.

Viorel grew up in Pârtestii de Sus, Bucovina, Romania, and dreamt of America ever since he was a child. Under Romania’s communist regime, when many couldn’t dare to escape from the rigidly closed country, he found a way to escape and pursue his dream. He would open the doors for his daughters and other family members to follow him in the beautiful, free world and made Michigan his home for the last thirty-one years.

He created beautiful art, painted gorgeous native landscapes, frescos, signs and interior and exterior decoration. He loved spending time with family and friends and keeping in touch with lifelong friends from Italy and Romania.

He is survived by his wife, Vilma Solcan; daughters, Laura (the late Dan) Stirban and Lacramioara (Franco Redolfi) Romagnoli Redolfi; step-daughter, Iuliana (Marius) Bucsa; grandchildren, Alyssa Diana (Brian) Hathaway, Madalina Ioana (Cameron) Hill, and Lucy Romagnoli; great grandchildren, Brayden, Cheyenne, and Audrianna Hathaway, Kaelyn, Aviana and Dominic Hill; brother, Gheorghe (Angela) Solcan. He was preceded in death by his brother, Vasile (Lili) Solcan.

A Graveside Service will be held at St. George Lutheran Cemetery in Genoa Township on Friday, July 24th, at 2PM with Pastor Ioan Buia officiating.
*For those invited to attend, social distancing & masks are required.
