Obituary for Verne T. Buehler

Verne T. Buehler was born in Chelsea, Michigan on July 16, 1934, to parents Verne Theodore and Mary Agnes (Maloney) Buehler. As a teenager and young man Verne was a pilot - learning how to fly when he was 15 and a muscle-car enthusiast. His nick-name became V8 Verne.

During an evening out in Ann Arbor at the popular U of M hangout, the Pretzel Bell, Verne spotted his future bride across the room. Outside Verne introduced himself to Joanne and the rest is history; they married over a year later on June 22, 1963. They settled and raised their five children on Maxfield Lake in Hartland.

Verne had many passions in life, including cars, antiques, gems, guns and flying but most of his joy came from his wife, daughters, son and grandchildren who will miss Verne dearly. With his outgoing and positive nature he made friends easily in and out of work. Verne's passionate and creative nature made him well suited for the work he chose.

Verne's professional career started in the mental health field; employed at Mercywood Mental Hospital and WJ Maxey Boys Training School as a Recreational Director. "Coach" enjoyed having a positive influence on the young men under his guidance. This occurred in his private life as well where he had a glorious impact on people. His smart, mechanically creative mind not only led him to multiple inventions and a patent, but it guided him to a second career as a mechanical engineer. Verne designed a street rod, a 1934 Ford two-door coup powered by a 425 cubic-inch Buick motor. V8 Verne was prominent in the local car clubs and car culture of the metro-Detroit area. Verne loved his Buick's and you could see him sport them around town. His favorite year was 1965.

Preceded in death by his brother, Neil Buehler.

His is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 50 years, Joanne May (Erickson) Buehler; loving children, Jodi Anne Buehler-Gebstadt, Michelle Anne Schoemer, Verne Theodore Buehler III, Tracy Anne Buehler McCrea, Lisa Anne (Fred) Orcutt; grandchildren, Noah M. and Hannah M. Gebstadt, Laura A. and Veronica M. Schoemer, Samuel A. McCrea, Gavin and Ethan Orcutt; sisters, Barbara (Richard) Rickelmann, Dolores (Frank) Perry as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

A Funeral Mass will be at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Howell on Friday, November 30, time pending. Friends may visit Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 600 E. Main St., Brighton on Wednesday from 5 - 8 PM or Thursday, 3 - 8 PM. Memorials are encouraged in his name to the Easter Seals.
