Obituary for Treva Wilhelmsen

Treva Wilhelmsen of Pinckney died in the loving care of her family at St. Joseph Hospital in Ann Arbor on Wednesday, February 23 after a long struggle with cancer. She was 71 years old. Born on July 25, 1939 in Alpena, Arkansas, Treva was the only daughter of Arkie and Delsie (Bailey) Massengale. She and her three brothers grew up in Arkansas where Treva was the valedictorian of her high school class and where she met the true love of her life, Johnny Wilhelmsen. The high school sweethearts graduated on a Friday and were married on the following Sunday, in June of 1957. They came to Michigan for work and Treva attended Wayne State University where she earned her certifications in accounting. She was always great with numbers and for years operated the Brighton Professional Tax Service on East Main Street, a location well-known for its gorgeous Christmas lights and decorations, which brought many new friends and clients into her office. Treva Wilhelmsen was a devoted Christian for whom faith and family were the great gifts of life. For nearly forty years she and Johnny hosted family reunions at their home in Pinckney -- events made sweeter by the aroma of her freshly baked bread and prized rose bushes. She loved gardening and tending to farm animals and traveling in their RV and worshipping at Liberty Baptist Church. For their 50th anniversary, she and Johnny celebrated with the family on a Disney cruise.
In addition to her beloved husband of nearly 54 years, Johnny, she is survived their daughter Tanya (Jeff) Willis, and son Richie (Cindy) Wilhelmsen, grandsons Adam and Joshua, brothers Danny (Joey) Massengale and Larry Massengale also many extended family and dear friends who join with her family in mourning the death of a dear woman and giving thanks to God for her life among them.

Funeral from Liberty Baptist Church, 599 Chilson Rd., Howell, Sunday, February 27th 3 PM with gathering beginning at 2 PM. Deacon John Carlson to officiate. Friends may visit at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 600 E. Main St., Brighton Saturday 5-9 PM. There will be a small graveside service in Clarksville, Arkansas in June when she will be laid to rest in the Oakland Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to: Liberty Baptist Church or National Pancreatic Cancer Foundation.
