Clarence Dale Seigle, Sr., a long time resident of Brighton, died on Tuesday, August 16, 2011. He was 85 years old.
He was born to Elmer and Rose (nee Eisenberg) Seigle on May 22, 1926 in Green Oak Township. Clarence attended school up to his sophomore year and left to work for the railroad laying track for $.37 an hour. In July of 1943, he was inducted into the United States Navy and proudly served in the Pacific, earning the Asiatic - Pacific Area Ribbon, World War II Victory Ribbon, & American Area Ribbon. After his discharge from the Navy in 1946, he returned to Michigan where he would settle down, marry and raise his family.
Clarence retired from the City of Brighton Police Force in 1989 after 34 years of service to the public. In that time he was awarded numerous accommodations, and worked with the K-9 unit. In 1988, the City of Brighton honored him with a day in his honor. His great devotion to the Blessed Mother was evident in his travels to Medjugorje. It was there he spent time working with orphans in the orphanage and building schools. A devout Catholic, and active member of the Church of the Holy Spirit, Clarence would often act as a Server at Mass. His love for his Church kept him busy with his involvement in worship, prayer and parish activities. One could always find Clarence volunteering for whatever was needed of him. Clarence was inspired by Fr. Leo, who taught him Scripture and to love God.
He passed this along to others in his advice: Go to Church, learn about God, and love God.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Joann, and is survived by children, Sharon (Randolph) Herrell of Brighton, Clarence Dale Seigle, Jr. of Brighton, Donna (Michael) Hanes of Onsted, Susan Seigle of Brighton; seventeen grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren, and his fiance, Marian Dunham of Highland. Brother of Hazel Hoganson of Brighton, Adrian Seigle of Brighton, June Thompson of Phoenix, AZ, Anne Theut of Byron, Charles Gravelle of Baldwin, Lawrence Gravelle of Portland, OR; many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
