Obituary for Shirley Lee Foley

Shirley Foley of Brighton, Michigan, formerly of Redford Twp., Michigan, died December 18th, 2021, following complications from Kidney Failure. Shirley was 89 years old.

Beloved wife of the late Michael J. Foley; Loving mother of Michael J. (Cheryl) Foley Jr., John R. (Paula) Foley, and Lynn Marie (John) Foley-Ayaub; Cherished grandmother of Dana and Michael Foley, John Paul, Patrick, and Andrew Foley, Michael, Katie, and Caroline Ayaub.

She was predeceased in death by her father Vincent (12-4-65), and her mother, Lucy (1-11-98), and her brother, Bernard (12-28-2017).

Shirley was born in Detroit, Michigan on March 1, 1932 and attended Epiphany Catholic School/Church and later Immaculate High School. She was the second of two children born to Vince and Lucy (Ankenbrandt) Vasher.

Shirley met and married Michael J. Foley of Detroit, MI (Mackenzie High School) while Mike served in the U.S. Army. She lived with Mike at Fort Bragg, North Carolina after their marriage where their first child, Michael was born on 10/18/1952. Following Michael’s honorable discharge from the U.S. Army on 03/20/1953, Shirley and Mike established their home at 9070 Columbia, Redford Twp., Michigan where their second and third child, John, 09/28/1955 and Lynn 12/08/1957 were born.

Shirley was a devoted mother to her three children, Michael, John, and Lynn. Her home on Columbia St., was the hub of activity for virtually all the dozens of children in the newly developed neighborhood surrounding Robert St., Bellarmine Parish.

June 18, 1975 brought the untimely death of her beloved husband Mike, at age 46. Widowed at age 43, Shirley nevertheless continued to remain active with her circle of friends and relatives, devoting special attention to caring for her aging mother Lucy, who died at 100 1/2 years old, her brother Bernard who never married and her eldest grandchildren, John Paul, Patrick, Michael, and Katie. Shirley always enjoyed playing with and loving her Dachshunds, Angela, Nitz and Suzie.

In her later years, through the generosity of her son, Michael and his wife Cheryl, she moved to a beautiful new condominium in Brighton, MI. Located only a few minutes from her daughter, Lynn, who lovingly cared for her through her final illness.

God Bless our Mother, Shirley Lee Foley and may she rest in peace in heaven with her family and friends in the Grace of God.

Memorial Services will be held at a later date.
