Ruth L. Markovitz, of Brighton, MI passed away peacefully on September 12, 2012.
Ruth, an avid reader and biographical aficionado, loved a good story, especially a good spook. Little did she know, she was living one of the greatest stories shed ever told
It all began 98 years ago on August 7th, 1914 when William Horace and Myrtle Amelia (Clark) Bertholf welcomed their first child and daughter, Ruth Lucille, into the world.
Born and raised in Toledo, Ohio, Ruth lived with her mother, a doting father, two grandmothers, and her three sisters: Virgina Birkhead, Helen Crooks and Doris Perry. In her childhood home, Ruth was taught to value her education, religion and most importantly, she was taught to have fun and an endless love for family.
In her youth, Ruth enjoyed sports, music, dancing, movies and the arts. After graduating from DeVilbiss High School, Ruth worked as a clerk until World War II when she was inspired to volunteer for the war efforts. She later pursued a career in retail.
Ruth married her late husband, Marvin Marky Markovitz on October 12, 1940. The couple was blessed with their daughter, Janis Lynn on August 28, 1950. Together, they traveled the world.
Ruth had a passion for life; loved an adventure, a long dance, stiff drink and always a good laugh. But if youd ask her, she would say the greatest gift she was ever given was her daughter Jan and her family. Though she detest the thought of growing old she cherished every moment she had with her children, grandchildren and her five great grandchildren. To each of them, she was so much more than a mother and grandmother. She was a mentor, a confidant and a best friend. No matter where Ruth was mentally or physically, her heart never strayed from the ones she loved. She would always say, as we echo to her now, Baba Baba DooI love you up to the sky and back again.
In addition to her daughter Janis (Michael) Shanahan, Ruth is survived by grandchildren, Joshua (Karen) Shanahan, Megan (Joshua) Salvia, and Sarah (Timothy) Barry; great-grandchildren, Jacob, Jillian, Mia, Blake and William; sister, Doris (Thomas) Perry. Also survived by many extended family and dear friends.
