Obituary for Rose Gannage

Rose Gannage, a longtime resident of Brighton, died on Monday, July 6, 2009 at Ashley Court, surrounded by family after a brief illness. She was 85 years old. Born on August 4, 1923 in Detroit, she was the daughter of Sam and Anna (Donner) Marko. She grew up in Highland Park and was working as a waitress at a restaurant on Woodward Avenue, across from the Ford Plant, when she met and fell in love with her husband, George Jay Gannage, who preceded her in death in 1986. They raised their family in Livonia and summered at their cottage in Brighton where they moved permanently after his retirement.

Rose was a dedicated mother and homemaker who loved cooking and learning new recipes and was always there for her daughter and her sons. She enjoyed playing bingo and wintering in Florida and seeing the generations of her family grow up around her.

She is survived by her daughter, Denise (Douglas) Johnson of Brighton, and by her sons, Dennis Gannage of Livonia, George (Pam) Gannage of Newnan, GA and David Gannage of Hartland. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Paul Matthew, Chelsea and Sawyer Gannage.

Funeral services will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 600 E. Main Street, Brighton on Friday, July 10, at 11 AM. The Reverend Loretta Job will officiate. Burial will follow at Parkview Memorial Cemetery in Livonia. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Thursday from 4-9PM. Memorials are encouraged to the American Diabetes Association or Odyssey Hospice. For further information please call 810-229-2905.
