Obituary for Robert Jay Schurman

Robert Schurman, 70, of Irons, Michigan passed away on Monday, August 15, 2022.

Rob was born in Detroit, Michigan on January 25, 1952 to the late Robert and Gloria Schurman. He was raised in Livonia, Michigan and graduated from Stevenson High School in 1970. Rob was always close with his brother, Gary, and the two remained the best of friends throughout life.

Rob was skilled in sheet metal working and ended up starting his own company, out of his garage in Redford, Michigan, in the mid 1980’s called Challenger Manufacturing, working in the automotive industry. He was a hard worker, respected by those who knew him, and extremely talented in his field. Over time, it grew and other family members worked with him at the business.

He would later sell the business in the mid 2000’s and moved up north to Irons, Michigan and lived on the Little Manistee River, where he would spend his free time fishing. He loved the river. But it was his family that was his pride and joy. His three daughters were his heart, and his world. He loved model airplanes, was handy at woodworking, and always put his signature heart on all his work. Rob also enjoyed playing the slots and going to the casino. He had a great sense of humor, and truly enjoyed watching and listening to the birds, especially his hummingbirds.

He and his brother Gary would take hunting trips to Wyoming along with other friends, go camping with his kids, or just enjoy being Papa to his grandchildren, instilling the values of family in each of them. He will be greatly missed by all who crossed his path.

Loving father of Christina (Joe) Lezotte, Rebekka (Trond) Darby and Laura (Bill) McMillan. Proud Papa of John, Ryanne, Cole, Kaitlyn, Dylan, Shelby and Billy. Dear brother of Gary Schurman (Laurie).

A Memorial Visitation will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home 600 E. Main St. Brighton 48116 on Monday, August 22, 2022 from 3:00-8:00pm.
