Richard Sarpolis, 87, of Brighton, passed away at his home on February 3, 2012 in the care of his family.
Richard was born on March 28, 1924 in Coal Center, PA to parents Anthony and Anna (Miller) Sarpolis. Richard was in the Navy for six years and served during World War II. During his tour of duty, he witnessed the atomic bomb testing in the South Pacific. He joined the Merchant Marine following his discharge, travelling throughout the Great Lakes. On May 6, 1950 he married the love of his life, Lillie Herrington. Richard�s career included positions with all three Detroit automakers. He was a boiler operator at Ford Motor Company�s Dearborn Power Plant when he retired in 1987 after 30 years.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Lillie Sarpolis; children Dr. Keith (Ann) Sarpolis, Kevin (Nancy) Sarpolis, Dr. Karen Sarpolis, Kristopher (Kathryn) Sarpolis; grandchildren Nick, Andrew, Amanda, Zachary and Alexandra.
A Memorial Service will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 600 E. Main St., Brighton, on Sunday, May 6, 2012 at 1 p.m. Visitation begins at noon. Memorial contributions can be sent to St. Joseph Mercy Livingston Hospice.
