Obituary for Richard Roy Rumpz

Richard Roy Rumpz, 81, and beloved husband of Lillian for 58 years, passed away on Sunday, January 10, 2021.

Richard could fix anything. He was inventive and artistic and loved to tinker in his garage. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and was very proud of all his children and grandchildren.

He was born in Detroit, Michigan on April 6, 1939 to the late August and Sophia Rumpz. Towards the end of his final year of high school, Richard joined the United States Air Force where he served as a jet engine mechanic. He later went back to school and received his Bachelor’s degree. But it was at a high school graduation party that Richard met the love of his life, Lillian Nolan. The two would later marry and raise four children and were blessed with 12 grandchildren. Richard truly enjoyed watching his grandchildren grow up, especially going to their extracurricular activities. He was so proud of all of them.

Richard worked for Xerox for over 35 years as a technical representative. The blessing at Xerox was all the spouses of his co-workers became longtime friends. He also started a building business with family and built their family home in 1977. He was a very handy man and could create anything that would make something work better or be more efficient.

In his free time, Richard enjoyed woodworking, watching cowboy movies, and just tinkering on anything that brought him out to his garage. He loved spending time in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and always felt at peace “hunting in the shack”. He and Lillian bought a motor home and traveled all over, with one of their favorite trips being the time they traveled to Alaska. All of his family appreciated all the conveniences he created as he “Richardized” the motor home.

His family would describe him as a “workaholic” who was always devoted to his family. He will be greatly missed by all who crossed his path.

Loving father of Beth Thompson, Linda Parzuchowski (John), Keith Rumpz (Mary), and Karen Martindale (Brian). Proud grandfather of Elizabeth Rumpz, David Parzuchowski, August “Gus” Martindale, Matthew Thompson, Daniel Rumpz, Jack Parzuchowski, Garrett Martindale, Sally Parzuchowski, Casey Martindale, Alan Thompson, Adam Parzuchowski, and Lilli Martindale. Dear brother of the late Earl Rumpz (late Barbara), the late Delphine Stelmaszek (late Walter), and the late Robert Rumpz (Shirley).
