Obituary for Richard Edward Schaft

Richard Edward Shaft, age 93, lived in Brighton, Michigan formerly of Lapeer, Michigan passed away on May 8th, 2019 quietly in his sleep.

He was born in Detroit, Michigan on January 19, 1926 to parents Fred Schaft and Edna Phillips. Rchard attended Northwestern University where he received his bachelor's degree. After graduation he joined the Navy as an ensign and proceeded to become a Communications officer on two different Naval vessels in World War II. After leaving the war he returned to Detroit, Michigan with a career of modeling.

Richard met his wife Norma Jean Selix and the couple married on May 29th of 1948. They resided in Allen Park, Michigan where they were blessed with a family of 7 children - four boys and three girls. He left modeling and followed a career in sales for some of the largest insurance companies. Norma and Richard over the years Ioved to traveled to some exotic vacations destinations.

Richard Schaft is survived by seven children; 14 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Richard and Norma were active members of their church Immaculate Conception in Lapeer where they donated their time to others. Richard was also an active member as a fourth degree knight in the K of C Chapter.

Visitation will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 600 E. Main St., Brighton, MI 48116, on Monday, May 13, 2019 from 2 - 8 PM. Rosary at 7 PM. 

Funeral Mass at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church, 2201 South Old U.S. 23 Highway, Brighton, MI 48114, on Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at 11 AM with gathering beginning at 10AM. The Rev. Fr. David Howell to officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
