Paul Alfred Zwicker, beloved husband of Sarah “Sally" for 69 years and retired Detroit Police Lieutenant, passed away on Thursday, January 21, 2021 at the age of 91.
Paul was born on May 12, 1929 to the late Frank and Teresa Zwicker. He grew up on Cherry Ct., in Pontiac, Michigan, the eldest of five children. He attended St. Fred’s Catholic School, graduating in 1947. In 1948, Paul joined the United States Navy, serving honorably until his discharge in September of 1952.
He married Sally in 1951 and began his family; four sons and two daughters. As his family grew, he loved spending time with his grandchildren.
In July of 1954, Paul joined the Detroit Police Department as a Patrolman. He was promoted to Sergeant, Detective, and retired as a Lieutenant in June of 1987.
He enjoyed serving in the Knights of Columbus for many years, and was an avid fisherman and golfer.
He lived a quiet, happy retirement of 33 years with his “first wife”, Sally.
Paul is survived by his beloved Sally, and is the loving father of Charles, Karen, Stephen (Terry), Thomas (Jane), Diane, and Paul (Beverly) . Devoted grandfather of Carly (Jeff), Eric (Christine), William (Cicily), Sarah (Cory), Emily, and Abigail. Proud great-grandfather of Wyatt. Dear brother of the late Elizabeth (Arthur), the late Joseph (Dorothy), the late Mary Catherine (Frank), and the late Francis (Estelle). Dear uncle of many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00am on Friday, January 29, 2021 at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery 1971 N. Hacker Rd., Howell, Michigan 48843.
