Patricia Anne Blankenship, a resident of Brighton and a longtime resident of Fort Myers, FL, died on August 22, 2018 due to complications of Parkinson’s disease. She was 76 years old.
Pat was born on February 27, 1942, the second of four children to Daniel and Jean (nee. Sloan) Laurel at home in Detroit, Michigan where she faced an uncertain beginning until she was placed on the oven door to warm. At the age of six, her mother died of leukemia and her family moved to Caro, Michigan where she was raised by her father, Daniel and step-mother. Despite life’s challenges, Pat was ever kind, non-judgmental and faithful. At the age of 16, Pat moved to Detroit and began working as a waitress. It was at work that Pat met the young Daniel Blankenship, for whom it was love at first sight. After a brief courtship, the couple began their fifty-eight year love story, beginning in January of 1960. Pat and Dan raised their family of four children in Brighton and for thirteen years, Pat worked as a bank teller. Each week, Dan would visit and cash his checks at her work, and following their retirement, Pat and Dan moved to Fort Myers, Florida in 1998. They fell in love with Fort Myers following a previous vacation and enjoyed twenty years on the beach and spending time together. She enjoyed classical music, attending her church and reading her bible each night and spending time with her family. Pat will always be remembered as a loyal and loving wife and a devoted mother and grandmother.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 58 years, Daniel; sons, Robert (Sue), Daniel and Adam (Melissa); daughter, Debbie (Larry) Kolnitys; grandchildren, Matthew Blankenship, Rachel Blankenship, Jarred Blankenship, Meaghan Blankenship, Adam Kolnitys, Samantha Kolnitys, Anna Kolnitys, and Nathan Blankenship; 2 great-grandchildren and brother, Daniel “Butch” (Ruth) Laurel.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Bob; sister, Nancy (Don) Heimbach and parents, Daniel and Jean Laurel.
A Memorial Service will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 600 E. Main St., Brighton on Monday, August 27, 2018 at Noon, with gathering beginning at 10 AM. Burial of ashes to follow at Fairview Cemetery.
