Muriel (Feuell) Sonderegger of Brighton, died at Independence Village on Friday morning, August 14, 2009. She was 90 years old. Born on May 15, 1919 in Akron, Michigan, she was the daughter of The Reverend Reginald and Maude (Farrow) Feuell. When her father was assigned to the Methodist Church in Midland, Muriels family moved there and it was while attending high school she met Karl Sonderegger who was working for a local funeral home. Muriel went to Central Michigan Normal College now CMU where she graduated with her BA in 1941. She taught kindergarten in Midland until the couple became engaged. They were married on the 12th of December 1942 by Muriels father in Jefferson Avenue Methodist Church in Detroit and honeymooned en route to Great Lakes Naval Center in Chicago. After serving in the South Pacific until the end of World War II, they lived in Plymouth, Davison, Bay City and Midland. Muriel taught first grade in Flint and Bay City, retiring from Bay City Schools in 1980. She loved books and was a constant reader and enjoyed knitting and sewing. When her husband of sixty years died in August of 2002, Mrs. Sonderegger moved to Brighton to be near her family.
She is survived by her three daughters, Karla (Denis) De Mott of California, Kathy (George) Wassel of Brighton and Karen (Larry) Appold of Bay City. Also surviving are 9 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and a brother-in-law, Frank Sonderegger and a host of former students who join with her family in mourning her death and giving thanks to God for her long life among them.
