Milicent “Mike” Thomas Edmunds, 86, of South Lyon, Michigan passed away on Tuesday, July 19, 2022.
She was born on September 5, 1935 in Springfield, Massachusetts to the late Harry and Edith Thomas. She grew up in New Jersey and liked to call herself a “Jersey girl”. She left New Jersey to attend Michigan State University. In addition to receiving a bachelors degree, she was very active in their sailing club and would become the first female club commodore. It was through the sailing club that she met her future husband.
She married Ronald Edmunds in 1957, and he left to go into the service shortly there after. Following Ron's time in the service, they moved to Grand Rapids, MI until 1965, then moved to Grosse Pointe Farms, MI where they raised their two children, Leslie and David. Milicent was a devoted and active mother, being a Girl Scout leader, a softball coach and a committed fan of all endeavors of her kids, both of whom went on to her alma mater and joined her Spartan pride. In addition to supporting her children's activities, she worked as an office manager for chiropractor George Goodheart. She went above and beyond in her work life as well.
After the passing of her husband in 1990, she remained in Grosse Pointe until 2002, during which time she became a very active volunteer in the Grosse Pointe Theater, sewing costumes and working at the shows. She also joined the Grosse Pointe Farms Boat Club, becoming the first woman Commodore in 1996. In 2002 she moved to Minnesota to help her son Dave care for his three daughters, who he was raising on his own. Dave preceded her in death in 2017, succumbing to cancer.
The last few years of her life were spent close to her Michigan family in South Lyon, near her daughter Leslie, who was also her caregiver.
She always gave 100 percent to everything she did. Her big smile was infectious and memorable. She enjoyed nice things like good food, good wine, and was always very generous.
Beloved wife of the late Ronald. Loving mother of Leslie Prud'homme (Marc) and the late David Edmunds (Carol). Devoted grandmother of Michael Prud'homme, Bennett Prud'homme, Carrie Stafford (Jimmy), Elliot Prud'homme, Jacob Prud'homme, Allison Edmunds, and Jennifer DuBois (Spencer). New great-grandmother of Harper Stafford.
Services are being held privately by the family.
