Obituary for Maureen A. Gonzalez

Maureen McDonough Gonzalez, left us to join God on Monday, February 22, 2016.

Maureen was born in Detroit, Michigan and is survived by her husband of 25 years, John Gonzalez. She is also survived by two Children: Jesse & Maria. Three Grandchildren: Luke, Noah and Tiana. In addition three siblings: Ginger (Al) Riehl, Patrice (Rick) Hartnett, Frank (Arlene) Holcomb.

Maureen attended St. Mary’s of Redford and received her para-legal degree from Madonna University. Maureen was born and raised in Detroit, MI; lived in Austin, TX; Cypress, TX; Brighton, MI and South Lyon, MI.

Maureen loved God, was deeply spiritual in her beliefs, and was heavily involved in her church. She participated in Cursillo in Chritianity (Austin, TX); the Austin, TX Diocese Synod and Christ Renews His Parish (Brighton, MI). She assisted her husband in running home-based Christian fellowships in Austin, TX. She was involved in the community with Meals on Wheels in Austin, TX. And other charitable causes in Brighton, MI.

Maureen was an extremely loving wife and mom. Maureen decided, in Texas, to retire from work and focus on raising her family to be God loving people. She continued this with her grandchildren as well. She loved family get-togethers, whether weddings, picnics, impromptu family settings, holidays and just going over and hanging out. She was known for closing parties or functions. ☺

Maureen loved to walk and was involved with different walk groups in Austin. She loved nature walks with her dog and family. Maureen loved nature and ensured there was wildlife around her homes by having bird feeders and other natural attractions.

She loved a good hot cup of coffee, breakfast tacos, pot roast, hot tea and short bread cookies. Chocolate donuts, chocolate dipped strawberries, dark chocolate and Michigan fudge.

She loved to travel and explore. She loved going to Petosky, MI., Sleeping Bear Dunes, Ludington, MI, Traverse, MI, Enchanted Rock, TX, Lookout Point, Austin, TX, Trapp Family Lodge, Stowe, VT, She also loved to go to Java Joe’s in St. Ignace, MI. She loved going to Ireland with her sisters, with the Bridget Gallagher Touring Company. She was known for taking roads less traveled to explore.

She spent Fourth of July’s in Boyne City, MI. She loved the community, lakes and sunsets.

She loved celebrating being Irish and would take every opportunity to do so. And was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians.

We lovingly remember a fantastic woman who deeply touched all she encountered.
