Obituary for Mary Louise Foley

Mary Louise (“Polly”) Foley, of Brighton, passed away peacefully October 28, 2018 at the age of 92.

Mary was born on March 10, 1926, in Detroit, the 2nd child of John and Louise Hymes. Her life’s work included raising ten children; working as a real estate agent and zoning officer; and managing subsidized housing programs for the State of Michigan.

Mary is predeceased by her husband Dominic, daughter Ellen, grandson Dan; sisters Delores and Kay, and brothers Jack and Bob.

She is survived by sisters Betty, Eileen and Ellen; in-laws Pat, Eileen, Ginny, Joanne and Jim; children Marie; Dan (Paula); Mike (Sandy); Nick (Jan); Joanne (Gary); Sheilah (Bob); Claire; Colleen; Frank (Grainne); former son-in-law Scott and daughter-in-law Sherry. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mom will be remembered by her family for her sharp wit, quiet strength, and Superman-like ability to see right through us with a single glance. She taught us right from wrong; grace under pressure; and that the fat was the best part of any steak. Above all, we will remember her devotion to her family and her beautiful smile, which lit up the room until the very end.

Visitation will be Friday, November 2, 2018 from 4 to 8 p.m., with Rosary at 7 p.m, at Lynch and Sons Funeral Home, 600 E. Main Street in Brighton.

Visitation will continue Saturday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 711 Rickett Road in Brighton, with a funeral mass beginning at 10:30 a.m.

Memorials may be directed to RED, c/o Peck High School, 222 E. Lapeer, Peck, MI 48466 (scholarship honoring Ellen Foley); or the Vasculitis Foundation, P.O. Box 28660, Kansas City, MO 64188 (www.vasculitisfoundation.org).
