Mary Eve Clemence, 71 years old of Ann Arbor, MI, died peacefully on May 29th, 2021. She was born on August 11, 1949 in West Branch, MI, the first child of Randall Byrd and Sara (DeLong) Clemence. She was the beloved life partner of Maurice (Moe) Sullivan.
Mary graduated from West Branch High School in 1967. She received a BA from the University of Michigan in 1972, and worked for over 45 years at the U of M Law Library, where she made many lifelong friends.
She volunteered for many charities over many years. She was an avid reader, loved history, and enjoyed gardening. She traveled to Europe, Canada, and New Zealand, and she visited Isle Royale National Park in Lake Superior more than a dozen times on long, ambitious camping trips. She was interested in an amazingly wide variety of subjects, from calligraphy, to sled-dog racing, to Great Lakes ore boats. And throughout her life she had many dear pets.
Mary was the liaison for her family scattered around the country, and the tireless family historian, who researched and compiled her family genealogy. She was a loving caregiver, dear sister and friend, and always had a sympathetic ear, giving timely advice when asked by her family and friends.
Mary is survived by her partner of 48 years, Maurice Sullivan, and by her brothers Lee (Penny) Clemence, Chuck Clemence, John (Carrie) Clemence and her sister Jane (Clemence) Zachariah. Mary has 7 nieces and nephews, and 9 great-nieces and nephews.
Mary was cremated, as she wished. She will eventually rest in the rural St. Augustine Church Cemetery in Deerfield Township, Livingston County. A memorial service is tentatively planned for sometime in the Fall.
