Obituary for Margaret Laverne Chapman

Margaret L. Chapman, a resident of Brighton and former resident of Grosse Pointe and Plymouth, died peacefully surrounded by her family on November 5, 2018 after sustaining injuries in a fall two weeks ago. She was 89 years old.

Margaret was born in Detroit on December 19, 1928, one of two children of Clarence and Alice (nee. Tomlinson) Marshall. While attending Denby High School, the young Margaret met Paul Chapman at Gratiot Avenue Baptist Church, and the couple married on October 14, 1950 at the church. Together, they spent the next 65 years and raised three children: Donald, David and Robin.

Margaret was committed to Jesus, her husband, and her family. She was active with Christian women’s clubs and Bible studies and played the organ at Gratiot Avenue Baptist Church in Detroit as well as Redeemer Baptist Church. Margaret was devoted to her children and grandchildren and acted a second parent to Robin’s children. She loved to entertain, and was looking forward to getting together with the family later this year for her ninetieth birthday party. She will be missed by many, especially her sons, Donald (Jan) Chapman, David (Maria) Chapman; daughter, Robin (James Hay) Chapman; grandchildren, Jacob (Heather), Benjamin (Brittni), Elizabeth (Edward), David (Sarah), Alexander (Mariam), Sara (Jay), Mac Hay, Alec Hay, Avery Hay, and Ian Hay; great-grandchildren, Eden, Ruby, Azalea, Anastazia, Edward, Delphine, Eda, Elliana, Caleb, Evelina, Solomon, Pia, Palomia, Amelia, Aria, Roman. She was preceded in death by Paul, her beloved husband of 65 years.

Funeral Service will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 600 E. Main St., Brighton on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at 11 AM. Luncheon to follow. Burial will take place at White Chapel Cemetery, Troy. Friends may visit on Friday, November 9, 2018 from 4 - 8 PM.

Memorials encouraged to Passages Israel, in honor of her granddaughter, Avery. Passages Israel offers Christian college students with leadership potential a fresh and innovative approach to experiencing the Holy Land. https://passagesisrael.org/donate/
