Obituary for Mairéad K. Burress

Mairéad K. (nee. Blake) Burress, a resident of Hartland Twp, died peacefully on January 13, 2018.

Born on September 26, 1940 in Killard, County Clare, Ireland, Mairéad was the thirteenth of fourteen children to Henry “Harry” and Nora (nee. Killeen) Blake. Mairéad grew up in Ireland and was ever proud of her Irish heritage. Like many of her siblings, at the age of 16, Mairéad went to England to join the Franciscan Sisters. She underwent three years of nurses training before emigrating to Detroit, Michigan with her brother, Patrick around 1966. Mairéad was proud of her work as a nurse at the University of Michigan Hospital and the VA hospital in Ann Arbor. On the 4th of July, 1987, Mairéad married Robert Burress in Brighton, Michigan and she instantly gained a family of five children.

Mairéad possessed a strong faith, a generous heart and a kind nature. She had an admirable memory and would often recite her favorite poems and songs. Mairéad had a great love for her entire family and will be especially missed by sisters, Catherine (James), Nora (Robert) and Loretta (Tom); children, Helen (David Schmitz) Himes, Gregory (Lina) Himes, Carol (Stephen) Pasichnyk, Edward (Dawne Fitzgerald) Himes, Bernie (Steve) Olmsted, eleven grandchildren and four great grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Dan and Gerri Burrsess; sister-in-law, Kathleen Burress; as well as many loving nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 25 years, Robert “Bob” Burress in 2012 and ten dear brothers and sisters: Joe (Peggy), Sr. Mary Regina, Sr. Mary Theckla, Sr. Theresa Benedict, Bro. Felix, Sr. Mary Gabriel, Patrick, Michael (Bridie), Jenny (Michael), and Harry.

Visitation will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 600 E. Main Street, Brighton, on Tuesday, January, 16, 2018 from 4-8 PM, with a Rosary at 7PM. Mass of the Resurrection will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 2099 N. Hacker Rd, Howell on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at 11 AM, with gathering beginning at 10 AM. Burial will follow at St. Patrick Calvary Cemetery, Brighton.

Memorials may be made in her name to the Solanus Casey Center, Attn: Fr. David Preuss, Director, 1780 Mount Elliott Street, Detroit, MI 48207.
