Obituary for Louise J. Peters

Louise J. Peters, a longtime resident of Brighton, former resident of Livonia, died peacefully at home on August 23, 2017 after a prolonged illness.

Louise was born on January 5, 1943 in Detroit, Michigan, the third child of six to Joseph David and Nina Helen ( Louma) Panyan. Following graduation from Cooley High School at the age of 16, she attended Wayne State University, married Frederick J. Peters in 1963 and were blessed with four children.

Selfless and hardworking, Louise had a long career as a bookkeeper and an accountant for several companies, often working long hours, seven days a week — she worked hard, but she also knew how to enjoy life. Louise loved to shop, garden, cook and she loved her children more than anything. A true matriarch, Louise was a proud mother who brought structure and order to her family with a sense of humor, iron will and big heart. She led by example and taught her children to never give up in the face of adversity, in addition to so many other important life lessons. Known affectionately as “Me-Mo” to family and many friends, Louise was always actively involved in her children and grandchildren's lives and interests. She was so proud of each and every member of her family — there was nothing more important her! She loved to spend her summer vacations with family, up in the Keweenaw Peninsula, Copper Country, where her parents were from and some of her greatest childhood memories created. Louise always looked forward to the phone calls and visits with her sister and best friend, Patti. She loved music, loved to dance and often organized family BBQs, dinners and family vacations. Louise loved to host family holidays and always had a way with making everyone feel so very special and loved. Louise was always surrounded by loving family members who will no doubt remember her by all of the fun, loving memories and cherished moments her life provided.

She is survived by her children, Fred (Patricia), Kristin (Scott) Hibbard, Karin, Craig (Elizabeth); beloved grandchildren, Evan, Alyssa and Ayden, Ian and Claire Hibbard, Nikolaus and Analise, Joshua, Luke and James; brother, Paul (Barbara) Panyan; sister, Patti (Bill) Stevenson; niece, Katie (Michael) Papale and their daughter, Violet; nephew, Kelly Stevenson.

Mass of the Resurrection will be held at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 711 Rickett Road, Brighton on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at 10:30 AM, with visitation beginning at the church at 9:30 AM.

Memorial contributions may be made in her name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
