Obituary for Kenneth G. Williams

Kenneth G. Williams, a longtime resident of Brighton, died peacefully at home on July 15, 2017 surrounded by his family after a long and courageous battle with prostate cancer.

Ken was born on October 23, 1944, the youngest child of Glyn and Gladys (nee. Delaney) Williams. He grew up in Detroit with his sister, Judy, and following graduation from Redford Union High School, Ken earned a Master’s Degree in Education from Northern Michigan University. Ken enjoyed the camaraderie of his college fraternity and his second fraternity, his hockey family. An avid hockey player, Ken was a lifelong Red Wings fan and played hockey throughout his life with numerous local teams.

Ken was one-of-a-kind and always the “instigator of fun”. As a husband, father, grandfather, teacher, friend and colleague, Ken inspired and entertained many with his humor, ability to make other’s laugh, his appreciation of life and joyful nature. In 1968, Ken began his thirty five year career with Southfield schools, Mary E. Thompson Middle School and Birney Middle School, until his retirement in 2003. His sense of humor suited him well for a career as a middle school science teacher. Each year, students and colleagues looked forward to his (sometimes ridiculous) yearbook photos.

Ken met Faye through mutual friends and the couple married on March 29, 2003. It was a marriage that blended Ken’s two children, Faye’s four children and a total of twelve grandchildren, with love. Family was very important to Ken and he loved nothing more than watching the grandchildren run laps around the kitchen or playing in the pool. He was deeply devoted to his friends, family and students and will be missed by many, especially his loving wife, Faye Williams; his son, Mark (Licia); his daughter, Nicki (Mike) D’Onofrio; step-sons, Joel Holster, Paul (Dyanna) Holster, Greg Holster; step-daughter, Traci (Dan) McCoubrey; grandchildren, Max and Sam Williams, Lola and Violet D’Onofrio, Ashley, Alyssa and Hannah Holster, Ben and Nick Holster, Ashley, Ryann and Jacob McCoubrey; sister, Judy (Mike) Cordon.
