Obituary for Kenneth D. Lumsden

Kenneth D. Lumsden, a resident of Hartland Twp., passed away in the care of his family September 19, 2012. He was 88 years old.

Born February 28, 1924, Ken was the youngest of two sons born to parents James Fergus and Marie (nee. Diamond) Lumsden. Ken and his brother James, Jr. were raised in the Detroit area. Following his graduation from high school and service to the U.S. Army, Ken continued his education and earned his Master's Degree in Engineering. He spent his long career as an automotive engineer with Chrysler.

On a fateful trip to Toledo, Ken met the young Janet Halleen, a nurse from Monroe, during a blind date coordinated by mutual friends. Janet remembers Ken as kind and patient. That same weekend on his return trip, he visited the Halleen home in Monroe to call on Janet. Mrs. Halleen made a pie for Ken which he has never forgotten. The next weekend, Ken and Janet went on their second date to the Monroe High School concert, and their courtship continued every weekend thereafter. In November of 1950, Ken and Janet were married in Monroe. The couple was blessed by the births of their children, and, in time, as their children found love of their own, Ken and Janet took great joy in the addition of their grandchildren.

Ken was a man of great virtue and strong faith. His kindness and patience which Janet appreciated that very first evening never wained and provided comfort in all their years together.

In addition to Janet his beloved wife of nearly 62 years, Ken is survived by children Gail (the late Doug) McIntosh, Keith (Pamela) Lumsden, Judy Lumsden, Peggy (William) Yahraus, Lary (Madonna) Lumsden; grandchildren Meghan (fianc Thom Heger) McIntosh, Scott McIntosh, Jeffery (Tonia) McIntosh, Jacob Lumsden, Margaret Lumsden, Jonathon Huguelet, Nicole Huguelet, Patrick Huguelet, Paige Huguelet, Ryan (Sarah) Shevlin, Kelsey Lumsden, Lauren Lumsden; great-grandson Rhyle. Extended family and dear friends join in mourning Ken's passing and in giving thanks to God for his life among them.
