Obituary for Keith G. Mahalak

Keith G. Mahalak was born in Wyandotte, Michigan on December 7, 1942. He grew up in Rosedale Gardens in Livonia. Keith had two sisters, Kendall-Jean and Diana, and one brother, Bob. It was at St. Michael's School where he met Carolyn in the 7th grade. Their relationship continued while Keith attended Catholic Central High School. Keith and Carolyn both attended University of Detroit, where Keith obtained his BS in business and his MBA. After graduation, Keith began his career in the automotive industry at GM then later moved to Ford Motor Company where he worked for 34 years. On August 7, 1965, Keith and Carolyn were married at St. Michael's Church and bought their first home in Livonia. Later they moved to their Farmington Hills home where they raised their two daughters, Nancy and Kate. In 1998 Nancy married Don Psenicka and their son, Nick was born in 2000. That same year, Carolyn and Keith retired to their current home in Brighton, Michigan.

Keith was a man with complete order in his life. Everything in his home has a label and a place. He loved to read and discuss politics. Additionally, it was not unusual to receive an article of interest that Keith had clipped from the newspaper. One of Keith's pastimes that shows his compassion was taking care of the neighborhood feral cats, two of which became their pets.

Keith loved to entertain. He and Carolyn hosted an annual Christmas brunch for their families. Easter was also a special event which included an Easter egg hunt and the arrival of "Harvey". Keith was the first Harvey, the pink Easter bunny.

One of Keith's favorite places was Walnut Creek Country Club where he and Carolyn enjoyed Friday night dinners with family and friends. Carrying on his father's tradition, he became a member of the Elk's Club. Keith was an active member of St Patrick's parish, and also contributed his rime to their Homeowners Association. Keith is much appreciated for his loyalty and commitment to his friends and community. He will be missed by all of us who have known and loved him over the years.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 711 Rickett Road, Brighton, Monday 10:30 AM. Father Karl Pung to officiate. Burial Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Southfield.
