Obituary for Kathy Sonderegger Wassel

Kathy Sonderegger Wassel, long-time resident of Brighton, Michigan, passed away peacefully on March 18, 2021 at the age of 74.

She will be deeply missed by her husband of 50 years, George. She was the loving mother of Sheila (Tom) Zajbel, Aimee (Ray) Shinosky, Addam (Alexis) Wassel, and Arynn (Ryne) Takacs. She was the cherished grandmother of Kayla (C.J.), Kelsey, Kalley, Morgan, Beckett, Jacob, Owen, Vivian, Madison, and great grandchild Cole; as well as many extended family members and dear friends. She was the daughter of the late Karl and Muriel (Feuell) Sonderegger and sister to the late Karla and Karen.

Kathy was born in Detroit, Michigan on October 18, 1946 and grew up in Plymouth, Midland, and Davison. She earned her teaching degree from Central Michigan University and spent the next 31 years as a teacher in the Dearborn Public Schools System. She had a great passion for her career and students. In 1968, one of her students arranged a blind date with George, who would turn out to be the love of her life. They married in 1970.

She was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church, a Sunday School teacher for many years, and member of the church choir. She had a love for tea, amassing a large collection of teapots. She loved to read, sew, craft, and always cherished her time spent with loved ones. Kathy will be remembered by all who met her for her kindness and generosity.  Anyone who was lucky enough to meet her knew how big of a heart she had. We lost a wife, mother, grandmother and friend, but Heaven gained an incredible angel.

Due to Covid restrictions, a private service will be held on Tuesday, March 23, 2021 at 11:00am.  Friends and loved ones are encouraged to view the funeral on Zoom.  A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery in Brighton, Michigan.
