John Francis McDonnell, of Whitmore Lake, passed away Friday, November 27, 2015. He was 86.
Born February 5, 1929 in Buckingham, Quebec, Canada, John was the eldest of eleven children born to parents Frank and Olive (Brown) McDonnell. John came to the United States to work for the railroad; soon after, he was drafted by the U.S. Army to join the efforts of the Korean War. Following his service to the Army, John returned to his work at Conrail Railroad Company where he spent his career and eventually retired as a conductor.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Eva Dabiero (d.1995), parents Frank & Olive McDonnell, brothers: Earl, Gerald & Billy
John is survived by his daughters, Daneta (Rick) Hislop, Valerie (the late James Ritchie) McDonnell, Patti Miller, Christina Whitt; grandchildren, Jimmy (Martyna) McDonnell, Shawn Davis, Nicole Kitzke, Leighton Davis, Aeron Giles, Amanda Hislop, Heather Hislop, Melanie Hislop, Larry McDonnell, John McDonnell, Charlie Whitt and Trish Whitt; eight great-grandchildren; surviving siblings, Ida, Inez, Christina (Doug) Roll, Mary (Larry) Welsh, Dorothy, Ronald (Jurrell), Mike, several nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 600 East Main, Brighton on Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at 12 Noon. Pastor Ten Roberts to officiate. Friends may visit Monday, November 30, 2-9 PM. Burial and Military Honors at Great Lakes National Cemetery at 2:00 PM.
