John Clarence Bucknell, 58, of Brighton, Michigan, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, April 10, 2022.
John was a devoted husband, father, brother, friend, and well-respected aviation mechanic in his field.
He was born in Royal Oak, Michigan to the late John and June Bucknell on September 5, 1963. He was raised in Southfield, Michigan and graduated from Southfield High School in 1981 where he also played varsity hockey. Following high school, John furthered his education by obtaining his airframe and powerplant certificates. He was always the guy who could fix anything, and he soon became the “go to” person in both his field and among friends and family. He spent time working with Reliant and other air charter companies, before settling in with Kalitta Charters, where he spent the majority of his career.
John married the love of his life, Lori Borlace, on November 9, 1991, and the two of them started a family, proudly raising two boys, Johnny and Joey. When he wasn’t traveling the world fixing airplanes, he loved spending time at home with his family, teaching his boys how to hunt, fish, and instilling all the values of being a good man. He always enjoyed the special trips they made to their family cottage in Ontario, Canada, where their family and friends have many great memories. John also enjoyed everything outdoors, from hunting and fishing to hiking and Morel mushroom picking. His family and close friends were fortunate to have recently spent a week in the Florida Keys where they went on a deep-sea charter fishing trip. He also very much enjoyed playing pool and hockey with his dad, brother, friends, and sons.
Of all his great traits that made him loved by family and friends and respected by peers, was being a man of integrity. He will be greatly missed by all who crossed his path.
Devoted husband of Lori for 30 years. Loving father of John Bucknell (Liza) and Joe Bucknell. Dear brother of Laura Bucknell (James Babauta), Terry Norman (Dale), and Tom Bucknell (Sue). Cherished uncle of many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2022, from 9:00am until 1:00pm at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home 600 E. Main St. Brighton, MI 48116, with a luncheon and tributes immediately following.
