Obituary for Johanna Ann Vukonich

Johanna Ann (Dyspolski) Vukonich was born in Henryetta, Oklahoma, on August 21, 1922 and died on June 1, 2013 at the age of 90. Johanna married Thomas Stanley Vukonich on November 10, 1945 and they were married for 46 years until his death on December 10, 1991. Johanna died peacefully in her Brighton, Michigan home surrounded by all of her family as was her wish. She is survived by her five (5) children: Thomas (Sandy), William (Charlene), Mary Ann Ankofski (Philip), Robert and Paula (JR), and eight (8) grandchildren: Sam (Maryanne), Jeanette, Seth (Laurie), Chris (Mindy), Alex, Kate, Jon and Kim, and one great-grandchild, Hannah..and her second great-grandchild due in November, 2013. Also survived by her daughter-in-law, Martha, many extended family members and dear friends.

ANYONE who was acquainted with Mom V, Johanna, Joan, Grandma, Aunt Jo, knew they had a friend she was everyones favorite. She cooked and cared for everyone who stepped through her door. She shared her secret garden knowledge with anyone who would listen, but her recipes for Polish food were well guarded and only shared with family.

She loved to brag about her family and all their accomplishments. Her life stories were endless; beginning her young life in Henryetta, Oklahoma; she worked for Square D Electric, manufacturing bomb releases during World War II; she worked as a nurse's aide (a job she truly loved); she organized the block club on Patton Street in Detroit; she made back yard ice rinks for all the kids in the neighborhood, and all the many, many friends she made and out-lived.

Johanna will always be remembered as a loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Friend.
