Joan Elizabeth Clauss (nee. Graf), a resident of Brighton, MI, died on Saturday, December 5, 2020. She was 88 years old.
Joan retired as Director of Cooperative Engineering from the University of Michigan. Following retirement, she taught Developmentally Disabled Adults through the Ann Arbor Public School System and was a member of the Ann Arbor Elder-hostel.
Joan had many hobbies. She was an excellent seamstress and was a member of the Ann Arbor Country Clubs Golf League and participated on both a co-ed and women's bowling league at Belmont Lanes. Joan also enjoyed boating, swimming and ice skating at "the lake" (Lower Straits lake) with her husband and children. Thomas and Joan also looked forward to their many fall color tours to the beautiful Upper Peninsula.
Most importantly, she was a devoted mother and wife. Very wise, easy to talk to and extremely funny. Our best friend.
Joan is survived by her loving husband, Thomas H. Clauss; daughters, Susan J. (Kevin) Carmichael, Dianne E. Bright and Patricia A. (Steve) Frick; grandchildren, Christina P. Bright, Brenna Packer, Dakota Klein, Wyatt Klein and Morgan Klein; great-grandchildren, Kayla Packer and Sonia Sobuh; brother, Harry W. (Virginia) Graf Jr. as well as many extended family members and close friends.
Joan is preceded in death by her grandchildren, Shawna Bevin Carmichael, Ashley Maureen Carmichael and Kerry Lee Carmichael.
In lieu of flowers or gifts, a contribution in her memory to Hidden Harvest, a non profit organization that provides food for those in need would be greatly appreciated.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Services will take place privately. For further information, please phone Lynch & Sons, Brighton at 810-229-2905
