Obituary for Jack Anderson Hamm

Jack Anderson Hamm, a resident of Brighton and Northport, Michigan, went to be with the Lord on March 28, 2011, at the age of 86. Born in Detroit on August 11, 1924, the son of Morris Denton Hamm and Dorothy Jane Anderson Hamm. Jack grew up in Detroit where he was a graduate of Cooley High School. Ever proud of his country, following high school Jack enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps on April 10, 1943. He served as a flight engineer on B-24 fighter planes and was a part of over thirty missions before his discharge on March 17, 1946.

When he returned from war, he went to work for Ford Motor Company in Dearborn and it was at Ford that he met Bessie McDonald. They fell in love and married at Greenfield Village on November 26, 1955. They made their home in Livonia, and later Farmington Hills where they were blessed with the births of their four daughters. Together they went on to own and operate numerous One Hour Martinizing drycleaning locations in the Metro Detroit area. In recent years they have enjoyed their homes in Brighton and Northport, where Jack found pleasure in gardening, sailing, and most of all, spending time with and entertaining his children and grandchildren.

Jack was a devoted husband, loving father, and a inspirational role model for his children and grandchildren. He instilled in his family the importance of education. He taught his grandchildren about boating, fishing, and life at Grandpas Camp. Through the years he generously gave back to many diverse organizations. He also had a passion for real estate, Detroit Tigers baseball, cooking and his Irish Setters. He will always be remembered as a loving and generous Christian man, who in his wisdom gave great advice, was a extraordinary businessman, had an uncanny sense of humor and approached each day with an objective.

In addition to Bessie, his beloved wife of over fifty-five years, he is survived by his daughters, Judith L. (the late Raymond T.) Even of Dexter, Lori J. (Joseph) Baker of Dearborn, Linda M. (Douglas) McDonald of Brighton, Wendy I. (Mark) Foley of Brighton; grandchildren, Terra, Jacob (Sarah), Brett, Kara, Courtney, Derek, Kyle, Todd, Jenna, Quinn, Morgan, and Garrett, and great grandchildren, Tyler and Madison. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa Marie, and his parents, Morris Denton and Dorothy Jane Anderson Hamm.

A Funeral Service will be held at Cornerstone Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 9455 Hilton Road, Brighton, on Wednesday, March 30, at 11AM. Friends may visit at the church from 10AM until the time of service. Interment and Military Honors will be held at Glen Eden Cemetery in Livonia, Wednesday 2:30PM. Memorials may be made in his name to Cornerstone Evangelical Presbyterian Church.
