Obituary for Harriet T. Gale

Harriet T. Gale, longtime resident of Brighton, passed away peacefully on December 3, 2012. She was 93 years old.

She was born in Detroit, Michigan on May 4, 1919 to parents Henry Thomas and Isabel Mellon. At fourteen, Harriet met the love of her life, Charles Gale, at the Redford Presbyterian Church youth club. The couple married on March 8, 1941 and together raised their two children and many pets, exotic and domestic, in Detroit. In 1964 the family made their home in Brighton and Harriet worked as a manager at OLeary Paint Company on main street and in Ann Arbor, until she retired at eighty years of age. The family had a passion for the outdoors, traveling and camping; they would pack up the kids, Woolly Monkey, duck and St. Bernard and get away. In her later years, Harriet spent summers in her trailer at Muskegon Elks Lodge on Michigans west coast and loved to take her grandchildren for trips to Florida, Alaska or Hawaii. Harriet lost her beloved husband in 1972 when she was fifty-four and started a new chapter of her life, alone. She had no desire to date or marry again, for Charles was her one and only soulmate. Harriet enjoyed her friends and visits at Big Boy, VGs and Citizen bank and stayed as active and busy as possible, living life to its fullest and cherishing each day.

She is survived by her daughter, Diane and son, Bill (Karen); dear grandchildren, Brandon, Autumn, Mckenzie and Matthew; faithful canine companions, Todd and Fritzy as well as extended family and friends.

A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, December 6, 11 AM at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 600 E. Main St., Brighton with Rev. Sherry Parker officiating. Burial Fairview Cemetery, Brighton. Friends may visit Lynch & Sons on Wednesday, 3-8 PM. Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Livingston County Animal Shelter or Arbor Hospice.
