Obituary for Gerald Joseph DeVore

Jensen Beach, FL --- Gerald “Jerry” Joseph DeVore, 86, previously of Rochester Hills, Michigan, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully on Saturday, June 12, 2021. His last days were spent visiting with family in Michigan.

Jerry was born in Detroit, Michigan on November 8, 1934 to loving parents Bryl and Lillian DeVore (Ozienski). He was raised in Detroit and graduated from University of Detroit Jesuit High School in 1952. Jerry served in the US Army before attending Wayne State University. On July 12, 1958, Jerry married Rosemary Waye and together they had four children: Bradford, Michelle, Jeffery, and Jacqueline. Jerry’s professional career was spent at Michigan National Bank where he held several executive positions before retiring in 1991. During early retirement, Jerry and Rosemary split their time between Florida and Michigan and enjoyed hosting family and grandchildren at the beach. Jerry and Rosemary had a loving 37 years of marriage until Rosemary’s passing in 1995. On November 27, 1997, Jerry and Kathleen Klein married and enjoyed 23 happy years together with their expanded family.

Jerry was a world traveler, voracious reader, and lifelong learner. He held many positions on the board of his condominium association and was very active in his community. Jerry enjoyed golf, dancing, sports, and, most important to him, time with family and friends. Jerry always had a good story or a joke to share; his laughter and love of life will always be remembered.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Kathleen; his children, Bradford (Joan), Michelle Maher (Michael), Jeffery (Colleen), and Jacqueline Webster (Wade); his brother, Dr. Ronald DeVore (Jana); his grandchildren, Dr. Bridget Maher (Lisa Mack), Kevin Maher (Laura), Mary “Molly” Maher (Pat Lewis), Adam DeVore, Jordan DeVore (Niema Alimohammadi) Jay DeVore, Margaret “Maggie” DeVore, John “Jack” DeVore, Katherine “Katie” DeVore, Amanda Webster, and Sarah Webster; his great grandchildren, Callum Joseph Maher, and Everett Michael Maher-Mack; his step-children Dawn LaCross Davis (Jim), Denise Skopczynski (Gregg), and Daniel Klein; his step-grandchildren, Zachary and Isabella LaCross, Carly Nales (TC), Ashley Davis, Travis and Trevor Skopczynski, and Alexandra Klein; and, his step-great granddaughter Collins Virginia Nales. He is also survived by many beloved sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his wife, Rosemary DeVore, his brother Nobert DeVore (Patricia), and his sister, Delphine Hnatowich (Edward).

A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Those wishing to make an expression of sympathy are asked to make a charitable donation to University of Detroit Jesuit High School Scholarship Fund or Wounded Warrior Project in Jerry’s memory.
