George William Defenthaler, a resident of Brighton, MI and former resident of Malvern, Ohio died at Mediloge of Howell on December 8, 2011. He was eighty-two years old.
Born in Detroit on August 5, 1929, George was the son of George Wright Defenthaler and Mable Lutey Defenthaler, who along with his brother Donald, preceded him in death.
He is survived by Jacqueline, his beloved wife of over fifty-nine years; daughters, Linda (Bernie) Bickes of AZ and Ginger (Miguel) Fernandez of Mason; son, George (Jody) Defenthaler of Livonia; grandchildren, Nick and George Defenthaler, Breanne (Greg) Unterburger, and Brian Bickes; great granddaughters, Addison and Mackenna Unterburger and many dear friends.
Mr. Defenthaler served his country in the Army Corps of Engineers and was a graduate of Hillsdale College where he was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. He was well known as a sales representative with Solvay Plastics for many years and was a proud member of the Association of Plastic Engineers. One of his favorite days was the day he had the opportunity to drive his 1957 Thunderbird around the track at the Indianapolis Speedway. A day that others will never forget was November 21, 1983, the day he showed his strength, and thwarted a hijacking attempt aboard his flight headed for Chicago. Though he wouldnt let others recognize him for what he had done (leaving the plane in a tan trench coat and FBI hat), he looked fondly on his one day in the FBI.
