Obituary for George C. Kandler Jr.

George C. Kandler, loving husband and father of three, passed away Monday, January 13, 2020 in the comfort of his home. George was born on April 12, 1950 in Houma, Louisiana to George and Dollie (Harris) Kandler. He received his Bachelor’s degree in biology at Michigan Technological University in 1968 and his Master’s degree from Michigan State University. On July 27, 1974, he married Diane Stein. They were happily married for 45 years, spending the last 31 years in Brighton, Michigan.

George had a great passion for the outdoors. He loved boating, fishing, camping, and was an avid hunter. He never missed an opportunity to identify a tree or jump into a lake. His family fondly remembers his corny “dad” jokes and infectious smile. George was a hard worker who considered every detail. He believed no project was too big or small, be it changing the oil or building a tree house for his children. George worked at ASTI Environmental for 30 years, until his retirement in 2018. He cared deeply for others and would do anything for the people in his life, whether it was his family or his clients.

George is survived by his wife Diane, his three children, Neil, Matthew, and Nora, and his sister Dianah Foster. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 18th, 2020 at Lynch & Sons, 600 E. Main St., Brighton, MI from 3:00PM to 5:00PM with a Time of Sharing beginning at 4:00PM. Donations may be made to the Alliance for the Great Lakes.
