Obituary for Eric Charles "Ric" Miles

Eric Charles Ric Miles of Brighton, died on July 20, 2011 after suffering a sudden heart attack while working in the office of the Make-a-Wish Foundation, which is located in an office building Rics company, Astrum Property Group, managed. He was 50 years old. Born on July 7, 1961 in Detroit, the son of Larry and Joann (Schroeder) Miles, he grew up in Findlay, Ohio where he graduated from Findlay High School and then attended the Rose Hulman Institute in Terra Haute, Indiana where he earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Later he earned an MBA from the University of Michigan and went to work with General Motors where he met and fell in love with a young intern, Lisa LaHaie. The couple married in Clio on November 27, 1987. Ric spent fifteen years in the plastic engineering field before making a career change to commercial real estate and starting his own company, the Astrum Property Group. The family moved to Brighton eleven years ago and became members of St. Patricks Parish. He was a man of deep faith and studied the Bible and shared it with others and was a role model of integrity for his sons and daughter. He served on the board of directors and the Dads Club at Detroit Catholic Central High School. A man who loved systems and processes and programs, he made charts to keep track of his childrens chores and taught them good conduct at his manners camp where they could earn extra points to be spent on family outings and vacations and the family events he was so fond of planning. He also loved sports and as a boy would build stadiums out of Legos and serve as announcer for the baseball and football games he dreamed up. As a father, he coached his sons soccer and basketball teams and his daughters jump rope squad. He was passionate about photography and architecture and would always take pictures of buildings that inspired him. But of all his passions, faith and family formed the core of his life.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Joann, and is survived by Lisa, his beloved wife of over twenty-four years, his sons, Evan and Chad, and his daughter, Nicole Niki. Also surviving are his father, Larry (Tricia) Miles of Findlay, OH; a sister, Sara (Robin) Hunziker; mother & father-in-law, Jo-Ann & Fred LaHaie; brother-in-law, Michael (Melanie) LaHaie; and nieces & nephews, Rebecca and Kreigh Hunziker and Alyssa and Ryan LaHaie and many, many dear friends who join with his family in mourning the death of a good man and giving thanks to God for his life among them.

Mass of the Resurrection will be held at St. Patrick Catholic Church 711 Rickett Road, Brighton, Michigan, on Monday, July 25, at 10:30AM with The Rev. Fr. Karl Pung officiating. Burial will follow at St. Patrick Calvary Cemetery.
Friends may visit at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 600 E. Main Street, Brighton, on Sunday, July 24, from 2-8PM. Vigil Service Sunday 7PM. Memorials may be made in his name to the Make-a-Wish Foundation or to Detroit Catholic Central High School, 27225 Wixom Road, Novi, MI 48374. For further information please phone 810-229-2905.
