Obituary for Edwin Thomas Grochowski

Edwin T. Grochowski, a longtime resident of Howell, passed away February 7, 2012. He was 55 years old.

Born March 6, 1956 in Grosse Pointe, Michigan, Ed was the third child born to parents Edwin Walter, Sr. and Marianne (nee. Kalmanek) Grochowski. Ed and his siblings Catherine, Suzanne, Michael and Anne were raised in Warren where he was known as Tommy by family and childhood friends. Following high school, spared from the Vietnam draft, continued his education at the Macomb Community College earning an Associates degree in Tool and Die design. Ed then entered the workforce as a draftsman with Golf and Western and then a designer with American Motors. Ed began his career of over 20 years with General Motors where he served as a gifted and deserving Transmission Designer. Ed had earned so numerous patent awards and acknowledgment plaques that space in which to display them all was becoming scarce. His professional education continued through GM and he had completed additional technical training at the Michigan Technological Universtiy. Ed married Cynthia (nee. Rojowski) in October of 1986. The young couple was blessed by the births of their two children Erica and Ian. Ed and Cynthia raised their family in the Genoa Twp. area where they were active for over 22 years in the Chilson Hills Church. Ed was a contributing and significant member of the Youth Group. It was his goal to dedicate his efforts to the Youth Group so that the program was thriving by the time his children were old enough to become involved and active themselves. Ed was paramount in the annual Mission Trips with Group Work camp.

Ed was preceded in death by his father Edwin W. Grochowski, Sr. and brother Michael Grochowski. In addition to Cynthia his beloved wife of 25 years, Ed is survived by his children Erica and Ian; mother Marianne Grochowski; sisters Catherine (Dennis) Grochowski-Schultz, Suzanne (the late Ron) Lane, and Anne Miller. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, extended family and a host of dear friends who mourn Eds passing and give thanks to God for his life among them.
