Dr. Rebecca (Monaster) Rankin, formerly of Bloomfield, Michigan died at The Willows in Howell, in the care of her loving family, on Sunday March 25th 2018.
She was born August 6, 1932 in Detroit Michigan. She was the eldest child of Sam and Marie (King) Monaster. Rebecca was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Christine Jordan, and brothers Dort Monaster and Telles Monaster. She is survived by her brother Tony Monaster (Brenda), sister Elane (Lazaros) Haney, brothers Thomas Lazaros (Linda), Costa Lazaros (Linda) and many nieces and nephews.
Rebecca was a life-long learner and educator. She was a graduate of the University of Michigan and Wayne State University, and was honored as Distinguished Alumnus of Wayne State University. She held many and varied positions in her professional career. Among these were: Assistant Superintendent of Oakland Schools, Associate Professor St. Mary's College-Ava Maria University and Principal of Waterford Mott High School to name just a few. She was very active in many state and national professional organizations dealing with research, administration, curriculum development and teaching methodology. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Fellowship. Rebecca's goal in life was to improve the lives of others through education and to make a contribution to the world and its youth.
A Memorial Service and Celebration of Becky's life will be held at People's Church, 500 W. Main Street in Pinckney, Michigan on April 14, 2018 from 11:00-12:00 with a luncheon to follow.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to: Make-A-Wish Foundation,St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Gleaners Food Bank, Child Evangelism Fellowship or charity of your choice.
