Douglas “Doug” Arthur Smith, 72, passed away the evening of December 14, 2021, at the University of Michigan Hospital.
He was born on September 16, 1949, to Jack and Phyllis Smith in Flint, Michigan. Doug spent his years working as a police officer for the city of Flint. He retired after 30 years of service. After his retirement, he resided in Harrisville, Michigan. Prior to joining the police force, he worked as a State Park Ranger in Harrisville, Michigan.
Doug enjoyed carpentry, including building his home from the ground up in his late 60s. Doug appreciated the tranquility the outdoors offered and enjoyed hiking state park trails and fishing. He read many books in his time and was a known history buff, taking a particular interest in the Civil War. Doug also possessed a skill for baking. A few close friends and family have surely enjoyed his homemade pizzas.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Phyllis Smith, and his younger brother, Gary Smith.
Doug is survived by his three children, Stacey Moran, Melissa Lundberg, and Jesse (Rachel) Smith; his sister, Linda (Shannon) Loose; and Kathy Smith the mother of his children. Doug will be long remembered by his five grandchildren, Daniel, Cassidy, Logan, Conner, and Colton. Douglas will also be missed by his loyal dogs, Jackson and Louis.
